    good value for the money.

The fuel tank skid is a good value but the mounting misses a bit. There is a "special nut" that replaces the oem nut on the cross member. The "special nut" hangs down too far and does not include bolt head protector like the other bolts have. AFIR should shave the head of that special nut down and include a bolt head protector for it. My buddy and I both hit that special nut bolt head while in Moab. It would have been nice if it were actually one piece but I am sure that was done for shipping reason.

This review is for a 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X

This review is for a 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X, 4-door JL. Overall, the installation wasn’t terrible, and I completed all of the work myself. I did run into a few challenges—below are my solutions.

    Gas tank skid plate:
This comes in two pieces, although the demo on the ASFIR webpage shows a single skid. You must install the rear section first. You also must add the brackets as you go to support the gas tank; failing to do so may cause it to drop. Don’t worry about tightening the forward bolts yet—you’ll need to remove them to install the second (front) skid plate.
There are no instructions for the special bolt. To use it, you must remove the aligning nut on the crossbar—do this before attempting to mount the skid.
The two skid sections will eventually align. I found that loosely installing the front bolt first, followed by loosely installing the rear bolts into the brackets, allowed everything to line up. I then used a jack to push the skid into place and align the remaining bolts as I worked. Once all bolts were installed, I torqued everything down to spec.
    General tips:
Leave all bolts loose until the skid is fully mounted, then torque to spec

    Have an electric ratchet handy

    Use Vice-Grips

Use some type of jack to push the gas tank skid into place

You don’t need a vehicle lift if your JL is lifted

Thanks Thomas, really appreciate the detailed feedback and the practical install tips. This kind of input is helpful for other customers as well.

Very thick and strong, but surprisingly light. Solid skids

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It’s great to hear the skid feels solid while still keeping the weight down.
