    New confidence in my 7 year old Subaru Outback

    Since installing the ASFIR skid plates on my 2017 Outback, I've gone deeper into the woods than ever before. I've been able to go beyond ruts and over obstacles such as downed trees, high weeds, and saplings on forest roads. the skid plats have given confidence to go farther and engage terrain I once avoided.

    Great product for the price, worth the wait.

    The Good: The skid plate quality was better than advertised. It is actually 1/4" thick where as a lot of other plates on the market are 3/16" thick. It is brushed aluminum with a great looking finish. The vacuum plastic packaging protected it over its long journey from Israel to Tennessee in the United States. ASFIR gave prompt and accurate updates about the lead time and shipping. I was originally told 6 weeks but it ended up being half that time. The quality of the item is fantastic. It is beefy and at 9 pounds it's more than enough to protect my engine.

    The not so good: The rear bolts are too short and 6 bolts are simply too many needed to secure the plate to the car. Also, with thicker material and more weight means more noise and vibration. When I first bolted the plate using the included hardware and torqued them to spec I started my car and because the plate amplified noise and vibration so much I thought my car was going to shake apart. Some modifications were required. I bought longer bolts for mounting the rear of the plate. I used polyurethane bushings between the plate and the mounting points on the car as well as installed sound dampening material on the plate where it meets the car to eliminate the noise and vibration. I only used the front and rear bolts to mount the plate, a lot of other manufacturers only use 4 bolts total. 6 bolts is overkill and I still have to take this plate off to change the oil.

    Overall for the price you won't find a thicker plate, even with international shipping it's still less expensive than plates that aren't even as thick as the ASFIR plate I have. I am happy with this product and look forward to having it protect the underside of my car for years to come.

    These are very important details, and we'll check this matter further.
    Our skids are designed with access to the oil drain plugs, but not for oil filters, as the oil filter requires a bigger hole.
    On the other hand, our are skid plates are very easy to install/remove, and are very light-weight, so it shouldn't be hard to change the oil if your filter is on the bottom side of the vehicle.
    The vibrations and noise may come because you didn't install the rear bolts, and we use 6 bolts to make sure the skids are sitting well and steady without any vibrations.
